British Airways has announced a new partnership with award-winning British tea producer Birchall, set to begin on May 1, 2025.

The airline serves nearly 40 million cups of tea on board every year, making the selection of a new tea provider a significant decision.

Birchall was chosen after rigorous blind taste testing, with its British roots and sustainability credentials also playing a role in the decision.

The family-owned brand will provide a carefully curated range of high-quality tea options to customers both in the air and on the ground.

Birchall tea will be available across all long-haul cabins, including World Traveller (economy), World Traveller Plus (premium economy), Club World (long-haul business) and First.

The new offering will also be served on board all short-haul flights in Club Europe (short-haul business) from June.

Economy passengers on short-haul flights will be able to purchase the tea via the High Life Café from July.

Birchall's Great Rift English Breakfast, the UK's most-awarded tea for taste, will feature prominently in the airline's tea line-up. Other varieties, including Earl Grey, Peppermint and Camomile, will also be available.

Chief customer officer at British Airways, Calum Laming, said: "Last year, we served more than 37 million cups of tea in the air, and more than two million cups in our lounges globally, so we knew that selecting our newest tea partner was a decision we had to get right.

"We're proud to be continually leading the way in championing British originality, and it was important to us that our tea not only ticks the taste box, but also showcases the quality and talent we have on our doorstep here in the UK."

Managing director of Birchall Tea, Daniel Graham, said: "We are immensely proud to be supplying tea for British Airways, which is the epitome of British quality and service, which is something incredibly important to us as well.

"We hope British Airways' customers enjoy this elevated tea experience in the air and on the ground for years to come."

The airline has also recently expanded its global network this week by relaunching routes to Kuala Lumpur and Tbilisi, marking a significant milestone in reconnecting the UK with both regions.

The flag carrier touched down in Kuala Lumpur for the first time in five years, with the inaugural flight departing London Heathrow on April 1.

The airline has also welcomed Tbilisi back into its route network, after its last scheduled service to the Georgian capital in 2013.

The daily service to Kuala Lumpur is operated by British Airways' Boeing 787-900 fleet, offering four cabin classes: World Traveller, World Traveller Plus, Club World and First.
