Marks & Spencer has recalled an item from its plant based range

Marks & Spencer has shared an allergy and dietary requirement warning on the product.

It contains egg, which is not mentioned on the label.

A customer notice said: "Customer safety is of paramount importance to Marks & Spencer and we take all issues regarding the production of our foods extremely seriously.

"Marks & Spencer is recalling its Plant Kitchen No Chicken & Chorizo Sandwich due to the undeclared presence of egg."

This could cause a potentially dangerous health risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance.

Those who have bought the affected item have been asked not to consume it.

Instead it can be returned to stores for a full refund.

The statement continued: "Please do not consume this product if you have an allergy or intolerance to egg.

"If you wish to exchange the product, you can return it to your nearest store where a full refund will be given.

"Only the displayed date code is impacted. No other M&S products are affected.

Food recalls are not often issued but they must be taken seriously.

'Recalls' or 'withdrawals' can be issued when a fault is found with a product.
