The slimmer put his success down to walking and adjusting his diet plan

There are many aspects of losing weight, such as regular exercise, a good diet and staying motivated.

A slimmer, who lost 7st 2lb in 11 months, explained how hitting his daily step count was vital for his "quick" weight loss.


Dieter Matt shared on YouTube how he changed his diet and exercise regime by setting goals.

Matt stated: "Another thing that helped was investing in a fitness watch which tracks how many steps you take a day.

"I try to do at least 10,000 steps daily to burn calories, and pickleball helps me too. I feel like I have mastered what I have done and still have more work to do."

The slimmer has been "on and off the weight loss rollercoaster" his whole adult life, but the shift this time was thanks to exercise. He also praised "different advancements in foods" that helped him to follow a low-carbohydrate diet plan.

Matt said: "I know I will hit 20 to 30 grams of carbs a day, which with exercise is good. For example, I play a lot of pickleball and I walk my dogs a lot. That has been the secret."

Indeed, a low-carbohydrate diet can help with weight loss. A study published in the National Library of Medicine noted: "Most research on low-carb approaches has shown that a low-carb diet, specifically a ketogenic diet, induces rapid weight loss induction."

He explained that he now eats his favourite foods with virtually no carbohydrates in them.

The slimmer said: "The ingredients in my crisps are a protein blend, milk, whey protein and vegetable oil. Some bits are not great for you, but the main thing is it has five grams of carbs inside.

"At night, I get a chocolate craving, which is a big weakness of mine. I now go for keto drinks with a chocolate favour. They all have about five to seven grams of carbs, which is a little high, but it is chocolate, and you can get them in many different flavours."

Matt not only found the drinks delicious, but they also helped "curb [his] appetite" and stop him from eating too much. It is worth noting low-carb versions of our favourite foods can often be highly processed, so it may be wise to limit these.

Of course, eating a balanced diet full of fruits, vegetables, fibre and protein is vital for sustainable weight loss.

Matt noticed an improvement in his sleep thanks to his weight loss, which contributed to him "looking younger". He explained: "When I was 21st 4lb, I had a lot of weight on my chest and I was snoring all night long. Snoring means you are not getting deeper sleep, and you get bags under your eyes.

"To lose 7st 2lb, it seemed very long, slow and tedious, but it was quick. I started in April 2024, and here I am in March 2025."

Now that the weight is gone, the slimmer has set a target to lose an additional 2st by keeping consistent with his method.
