Telling a loved one about your weight loss plans can keep you accountable

While weight loss is a personal journey, enlisting the help of a loved one can make it an easier one.

Slimmer Amy Fritz explained how telling her loved ones about her goals helped her lose over 80lb (around 5st 10lb) in nine months.

Amy, who makes home and garden videos on YouTube as well as weight loss, said that being honest with the people around her made a big difference when she was trying to make a change.

Amy found that she gained a lot of weight when she had three children in three years and then the pandemic hit. At her heaviest, she weighed in at 16st 6lb and she decided that something had to change.

The slimmer encouraged others on their weight loss journey to open up about their plans.

Amy said: "The first thing I did when getting started was telling someone. That is the number one tip I could recommend. If anything worked for me in this process, it was telling someone.

"Maybe tell two people - get some accountability. Not only did I have a heart-to-heart with my husband, which was very helpful and very sweet, I told a friend."

Telling her friend how she was doing on her journey and what her goals were worked wonders for her.

Having someone to text about her progress once a day - whether it was that she had met her hydration goal or eaten a healthy meal - made her journey easier.

Amy said: "We weren't meant to do it alone and you need support, you need community and somebody alongside you to help you on your journey."

Other ways Amy shed her excess weight included tracking what she ate, staying hydrated, following a healthy diet, intermittent fasting followed by intuitive eating, finding ways to make her favourite foods healthier, and exercising.

Amy advised slimmers looking to lose weight to seek medical advice before changing their diet and lifestyle.

The NHS provides plenty of information on how Britons should go about losing weight, aiming for around 1 to 2lb a week.

Slimmers were advised to get active for 150 minutes a week. This can be broken up into shorter sessions.

A healthy diet is essential. Those trying to lose weight should aim to get their five a day, read food labels and look for more green than red, cut down on food that's high in sugar and fat and swap sugary drinks for water.

Like Amy, the experts advised slimmers to share their weight loss plan with someone they trust, as a loved one can provide motivation when a slimmer has a bad day.

The experts said: "You do not have to do everything at once, try one thing at a time and find what works for you."

Another weight loss inspiration shared how she made her incredible transformation. A woman who dropped 8st in one year claimed that the key to seeing results is a specific routine.
