Everybody knows that implementing a healthy diet plan is key to losing weight - but often a negative mindset gets in the way.

A fat loss coach who made a weight loss transformation of her own shared her "best piece of advice" for effective slimming.

Anie (who goes by @princessofreinvention on TikTok) lost more than 3st 7lb and on this journey, discovered the importance of adopting a healthy outlook towards food.

She advised slimmers to shift their mindset to one of "abundance" rather than "scarcity".

While the former is a belief that there is more than enough of something to go around, the latter suggests a lack.

Anie said: "Once you realise you'll always be able to have it, you will realise you don't need to binge on it."

Someone with an abundance mindset, for example, may be able to enjoy chocolate in moderation, while someone with a scarcity mindset could be more likely to overindulge in it.

"Food is never going to go extinct," Anie told slimmers. "If you're lucky and privileged and blessed, you can go to the supermarket any day at any time and get a bar of chocolate.

"You do not have to eat the whole bar of chocolate that night or in that sitting."

A fellow slimmer commented on the video: "I go with the, 'There is lots of yummy food out there, but my stomach can only contain very little of it,' or 'I will eat it more tomorrow,' when I feel peckish at night."

Another seconded this: "I've recently learnt this. I just tell myself, 'It will still be there,' - you can order a pizza or buy a chocolate cake."

Offering a second piece of advice to struggling slimmers, Anie added in the comments: "Learning how to remove food from emotional reward is so important."

Weight loss is a very individual experience and what works for one slimmer may not work for another.

If you're looking to transform but don't know where to start, consulting your GP is always your best bet.

The NHS also has lots of guidance on the weight loss strategies to implement for safe and sustainable slimming.

How to lose weight

  • Get active for 150 minutes a week, breaking this up into shorter sessions
  • Aim to eat five portions of fruits and vegetables every day - 80g of fresh, canned or frozen fruit or vegetables count as one portion
  • Aim to lose 1lb - 2lb (or 0.5kg - 1kg) a week
  • Read food labels - going for ones with more green colour coding than amber and red
  • Swap sugary drinks for water - if you do not like the taste, add slices of lemon or lime
  • Minimise your intake of high-fat and high-sugar foods - start by swapping sugary cereal for whole grain alternatives
  • Share your weight loss plan with someone you trust - they can help motivate you
It's important to approach weight loss sustainably rather than restricting your diet and losing too much in a short space of time.
