Leafy greens are "low in calories, high in volume and filled to the brim with vitamins, nutrients and minerals"

Following a healthy diet is an essential part of any weight loss journey, and according to one weight loss and nutrition coach, certain foods can really help you see results.

Jenn from Jenn Clayton Nutrition shared the "serious game-changers for weight loss" in the over 50s. She encouraged slimmers to stock up on leafy greens.

The expert said: "Weight loss starts in the kitchen and fitness starts in the gym, and we need to focus on food and nutrition to lose weight.

"This is more important as we age. As we progress in years, our metabolism naturally slows down and there are certain foods out there that will help combat that."

She said that while it's impossible to "erase" this slowing metabolism, some diet changes can work wonders when it comes to weight loss.

Jenn told slimmers that adding 11 specific foods and one drink into your daily diet can reap major benefits.

These must-haves are leafy greens, fatty fish, avocado, prunes, egg, plain Greek yoghurt, barley, dark chocolate truffles, cruciferous vegetables, berries, beans, legumes and water.

Under 50 and want to lose weight? Jenn advised that 12 items are excellent for losing weight at any age.

Explaining the benefits of leafy greens, the weight loss guru said: "Leafy greens are one of the top weight loss foods over the age of 50."

The expert explained that these are "rich in nutrients and fibre". Jenn said: "Fibre along with protein keeps you full. So if you're having these cruciferous vegetables as a side with protein, that is a power-packed filling meal."
