Not comparing yourself to others and making your training fun helps with weight loss

Losing weight has multiple hurdles for individuals to get over. From keeping consistent to remaining motivated, there are several challenges to overcome.

A slimmer took to YouTube to share how he has lost 1st 9lb already in the first eight weeks of 2025, an average of nearly 3lb a week.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, SideQuestNoRest, the weight loss enthusiast put down his success to following four principles.

One of these was how to use social media. He said: "I think we have all been guilty of this, especially in the age of social media. But the first rule I set for myself throughout my journey was not to compare myself to anyone else."

Comparing yourself to someone else demotivates you and draws away your focus from the progress you are making.

The content creator said: "They say comparison is the thief of joy and the only person I am competing with or comparing myself to is the person I was yesterday.

"The moment you start comparing yourself to someone else, especially someone you see on the internet, is the moment you start to take away from your own accomplishments."

Only use social media for tips and advice when losing weight. It should be a tool to help you, not hinder your journey.

Consistency is arguably the biggest challenge people have to overcome when losing weight.

The slimmer said: "Understand that this is not a short-term fix. This has been the single biggest shift in my mentality on this journey.

"There is no quick fix or end date. This will require hard work and slowly improving yourself day after day."

Having a good balance of exercise and diet is key to losing weight. Take time to work out what works for you and once you have a routine, commit to it.

The slimmer recommended trying to make your training fun. It will help stimulate your mind and encourage you to work out.

The YouTuber explained: "Whether you are training for a specific purpose or just want to start making a healthier change, include things that bring you joy in your workouts.

"The fourth thing is to trust the science. I eat 500 calories below maintenance and calculate my metabolic rate. These are proven tools to do the maths in how much you need to be eating and how much training you should be undertaking."

Individuals struggling with their weight should always consult their GP before making any major lifestyle changes.
