"Shrinking your stomach" is a proven way to reduce hunger, and choosing the right foods can help slimmers achieve this.
Foods high in fibre and protein can help to do this, according to a nutritionist.
While is it not possible to actually reduce the size of the stomach naturally, those hoping to lose weight can change how their stomach feels hunger and fullness. This is commonly referred to as shrinking the stomach.
It is possible to become accustomed to eating less which is great for those needing to eat less to achieve weight loss goals.
Foods high in fibre can suppress the appetite
PA
Nutritionist Guna Bilande from Weight Loss Riga spoke about how fibre can help promote feelings of fullness and help people eat less.
She said: "Embrace whole grains, fruits, vegetables and legumes - these fibre-rich wonders play a dual role.
"They induce a sense of fullness, helping you consume less by curbing your appetite.
"Moreover, their slow digestion aids in stabilising blood sugar levels, providing lasting energy and reducing the likelihood of overeating."
Fibre is known to suppress the appetite which can help people to drop their overall calorie intake - something that is vital for weight loss.
Research published in the National Library of Medicine suggested the weight loss effects of fibre could specifically target belly fat.
Foods high in protein can have a similar effect on the appetite.
Dieters can lose weight and cut belly fat by eating more protein, research has shown. Guna spoke more of the benefits of filling up on the macronutrient.
She added: "Protein-rich foods, from lean meats to eggs and plant-based sources such as tofu and tempeh, are your allies in this journey.
