Weight loss efforts can easily be derailed when snack cravings kick in

Although there is nothing wrong with snacking, what you choose to munch on and how often you do this could be stopping you from losing weight.

Speaking exclusively to GB News, a doctor explained why certain smells could reduce your desire to snack.

Chemist and natural health expert Dr Tim Bond from Puressentiel explained: “Snacking can be a real issue for anyone trying to lose weight, especially with snacks that are high in calories, unhealthy or consumed excessively.

"Your meals may be well balanced but adding in high-calorie snacks can really derail weight loss efforts potentially leading to weight gain.

"But there is a healthy alternative. Inhaling specific plant-based essential oils has been shown to help curb hunger and control cravings, making it easier not to snack on biscuits, crisps and chocolate bars and to stay on track to lose weight."

Certain smells could reduce the urge to gorge on unhealthy snacks which, in turn, could make your weight loss efforts easier. The doctor continued: “Essential oils do not cause weight loss directly.

"However, they can help weight management indirectly, for example, by reducing food cravings, energising a workout, relieving stress, and encouraging sleep."

He mentioned four oils in particular that have been studied for their contribution to weight management - bergamot, chamomile, mandarin and cinnamon.

Dr Bond explained: "A research review of bergamot essential oil found bergamot may help suppress appetite and reduce cholesterol. It may also help lessen anxiety, pain, and stress, which sometimes leads to overeating.

"Chamomile essential oil may improve blood glucose control and promote weight loss. Laboratory research shows that clove may improve fat metabolism and promote weight loss.

"Mandarin essential oil is rich in limonene which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects and may support weight management through appetite suppression and improved metabolism.

"Some evidence shows that cinnamon essential oil could help with obesity by regulating appetite and improving energy metabolism.

"To get the benefits of these essential oils to swerve the snacking temptations try the Puressentiel Slimstick Inhaler which contains a unique blend of five essential oils - Bergamot, Roman Chamomile, Mandarin, Clove, and Ceylon Cinnamon – and acts as a natural appetite regulator, helping to curb hunger and avoid unhealthy snack temptations. Studies show 83 per cent of users find this approach effective for reducing appetite."
