A strategic meal plate will help you cut down calories "without skimping on portion size"

A healthy diet is non-negotiable if you are undertaking a weight loss journey, but not everyone knows how to construct a slim-friendly plate.

GB News spoke exclusively to a nutritionist about how people can lose weight easily and effectively at home. According to the expert, piling your plates high with vegetables is a great place to start.

Scott Baptie told GB News: "The rule of quarters is a simple guide for creating a balanced and healthy plate.

"Fill half your plate with green veg, one quarter with lean protein, and the last quarter with carbs.

"This approach reduces calories without skimping on portion size, as veggies are nutrient-packed and low-calorie.

"Whether at home or a buffet, start with the veg, then protein, and save carbs and sauces for last to keep things balanced and satisfying."

Incorporating more vegetables into your diet is a great way to achieve weight loss success and still be satiated.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explained: "Losing weight doesn't necessarily mean that you have to eat less food.

"You can create lower-calorie versions of some of your favourite dishes by substituting low-calorie fruits and vegetables in place of higher-calorie ingredients.

"Most fruits and vegetables are naturally low in fat and calories. The water and fibre in fruits and vegetables will add volume to your dishes so you can eat the same amount of food with fewer calories. This means you can feel full while eating fewer calories."

A healthy, nutrient-packed diet is essential for safe, sustainable weight loss, with experts becoming more and more wary of diets that claim to give you quick, extreme results.

Scott told GB News: "Diets are like short-term fixes - you start them, you stop them, and the cycle continues.

"They're often restrictive, unsustainable and based on pseudoscience, making them unpleasant and ineffective.

"The key to success isn’t rigid rules or banning foods: it's making small, manageable changes and enjoying everything in moderation for long-term results."

Scott previously spoke to GB News about the number one food group to eat with every breakfast.

Slimmers might want to start their morning with Greek yoghurt, eggs, smoked salmon or lean meats on toast.
