Those on a weight loss journey should enjoy popcorn, berries and protein-packed prawns

While some people believe that snacking should be avoided when you're trying to lose weight, it is possible to enjoy daily nibbles without reversing your progress - as long as you make healthy choices.

Weight loss expert Cori Lefkowith shared her top three tasty and low-calorie snacks for those on a fat loss journey.

Ceri, who founded the health and fitness programme Redefining Strength, encouraged slimmers to enjoy popcorn, berries, and ready-to-eat prawns.

Ceri said: "Whenever I'm trying to lose fat, these low-calorie foods make dieting so much easier."

Berries

For those who want to slim down, popcorn makes for a great snack. Ceri said: "It's a high-volume, low-calorie food that contains fibre, B vitamins and vitamins A, E and K."

Slimmers can enjoy a bowl or bag of popcorn as long as they avoid adding lots of butter, oil and salt, which pile on the calories.

Because popcorn is so moreish though, it is easy to overindulge. Ceri advised those who struggle with portion control to enjoy just one single-serve packet.

The weight loss enthusiast also advised snacking on berries. These "satisfy your sweet tooth", so you don't feel the need to reach for chocolate or sweets.

There are plenty of ways berries can be incorporated into your diet - think homemade smoothies, a topping for Greek yoghurt, or enjoyed on their own.

They are also very low in calories - around 70 per cup - as well as being high in fibre and satiating.

If you're looking for one fruit to prioritise, a doctor named the "number one" option to help you lose weight - and it specifically torches tummy fat.

There is one fruit you should avoid eating for breakfast, however, if you want to lose weight.

In addition to popcorn and berries, Ceri also recommended snacking on ready-to-eat prawns. Calling them an "easy protein snack", she advised that they are great for slimmers on the go. These can be eaten on their own or popped into a salad, pasta or rice dish.

Prioritising protein is essential for those on a weight loss journey. It is extremely satiating, not to mention crucial for building and maintaining muscle mass.

Another hack for slimming down is to be mindful about what's on your dinner table - and not just food and drink.
