Eating whole foods, a calorie deficit and regular exercise propelled the slimmer's journey

There are many different ways to lose weight, however, going back to basics can be the catalyst of a weight loss journey.

A woman has shared that keeping things simple and making small changes is what helped her lose 7st.

Slimmer Amy Fritz said on YouTube: "At the end of 2022, I was 16st 4lb which was the highest I have ever been. It was not so much about seeing that number for the first time, but we went on holiday and nothing fit.

"I felt terrible and I did not recognise myself in pictures. I was tired of walking around with the guilt and shame of knowing I was treating my body poorly and not doing anything about it."

Amy committed to making some "small changes for a short season" to start making herself feel better.

She explained: "In January 2023, I just flipped a switch. I was dialled in, had a few specific goals and stuck to them every day.

"I did not follow a specific diet, but I focused on having lean proteins, lots of fruit and vegetables, whole grains, dairy, prioritising whole foods, and I stuck to a calorie deficit."

The combination of these measures "made change happen really fast" for the slimmer as she virtually cut her calorie intake in half.

The YouTuber said: "Going from eating 4,000 to 5,000 calories a day of ultra-processed food to then going to eating less than 2,000 calories a day of whole foods - the pounds started to come off.

"Losing one pound a week was my goal and I just stuck to it. Every single day, I tracked my food and I tried to avoid eating out. Of course things happen, but I tried to not overestimate my calories."

Exercising is important in any weight loss journey, but people may feel slightly intimidated when starting to work out.

Amy said: "I was very intimidated to work out so my friend and I met at the gym, three times a week and walked for 30 minutes.

"It got my body moving regularly for the first time in seven or eight years, and so it only took a couple of weeks to see momentum build."

The weight loss enthusiast said she struggled for the first two weeks but was able to build up the pace of how fast she walked.

She stated: "It took some time but I got there. I worked up to the 3:12 workout. That is 3mph and 12 incline for 30 minutes. I consistently did that three to four times a week, whilst I was focused on my calorie deficit.

"I had to start small, I think everybody has to start small. Set realistic goals for yourself that you can achieve in the first few weeks of your journey. That is going to boost your confidence, motivation and keep going because that is what it's about."
