Slimmers can lose weight effectively without stepping foot in a gym, an expert told GB News

Losing weight may seem impossible for those who are just starting their journey. However, some key exercises can make all the difference.

Personal trainer Omar Ellaboudy spoke exclusively to GB News about how Britons can torch fat, including stubborn belly fat. He recommended that slimmers run, walk at an incline, or go for a simple walk.

Ellaboudy told slimmers to put on their running shoes for effective results. The free exercise does not require any special equipment or a gym membership. The expert said: "As long as you don't have an injury, the easiest thing you can do is run.

"It's not the most enjoyable, but anyone can do it. It's free, it can be done at any time, anywhere. For me, running is number one, just because of how accessible it is.

Gym members can switch things up with an incline walk or StairMaster. Ellaboudy said: "I normally suggest 35 minutes for an incline walk, with an incline of 11 and a speed of 5.5 on the machine. You can do the same on a Stairmaster with a resistance of five.

"These two exercises are really good staples that anyone can do at any age - and it's low intensity."

Ellaboudy suggested that these types of workouts are a great alternative for more mature slimmers whose joints may hurt when running: "Over a period of time it can really burn some calories."

When it comes to simply walking, Ellaboudy's personal training clients are asked to walk at least 9,000 steps per day. He said: "If you're looking at the science, 6,000 steps is the baseline amount to remove any health risks - so 6,000 has got to be done.

"It also just has you up and moving, which is a lot better than sitting on your bum all day doing nothing.

"But I believe that the higher you go, the more calories you will burn by walking. I tell my clients that the more steps they do in a day and the more they have to get up, that's more time away from food."

By getting out for a nice evening walk with loved ones, slimmers can distract themselves from eating out of sheer "boredom".

Another benefit of walking is that it encourages people to exercise outside of the gym, in ways that feel less like a "chore".

While running, walking, and the use of a StairMaster will help slimmers fight fat, the expert revealed that it is impossible to dictate where you lose it.

Ellaboudy said: "It comes off differently in different people. When I was younger, everyone was under the impression that if you did 1,000 sit-ups and ate clean, you'd have abs.

"But genetics play a dramatic part in where you lose weight. I've had clients who lose all the excess weight on their stomach first and their legs are the last to go, or vice versa.

"The stomach is a bit of a troubled area, but the longer you can be consistent, you will see results here."

Of course, exercise must be paired with healthy eating for the best results. Indeed, Ellaboudy said: "Combining the two is where the ultimate weight loss comes in."

Another way slimmers can lose weight is by avoiding snacks that sabotage their goals. A doctor named the seemingly healthy snack that makes you "pack on fat".
