Oprah spoke more about how she changed her attitude towards food in a new programme An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution.
The 70-year-old explained she had struggled with her weight and constantly thought about food, already planning what she would eat for lunch while eating her breakfast.
However, she can now eat the same foods and be satisfied without eating excessive amounts.
Oprah said: "This is what I got for the first time after I took the medication - all these years I thought all of the people who never had to diet were just using their willpower and they were for some reason stronger than me.
"Now I realise you weren’t even thinking about the food. It’s not that you had the willpower, you weren’t thinking about, you weren’t obsessing about it. That is the big thing I learned.”
She spoke of the "disease" of obesity and explained how her attitudes towards food have now changed.
The journalist added: "Being on the medication... now I can eat half a bagel and be fine. I still want the bagel, I just want less of the bagel."
Oprah discussed her transformation to remove the "stigma, shame and judgement" from obesity after explaining she has been ridiculed for many years over her weight.
Oprah previously said she uses medication "as I feel I need it, as a tool to manage not yo-yoing".
Weight loss medications can be taken in extreme cases to help with obesity and should only be used when prescribed by a doctor.
