Weight loss is the combination of diet and exercise

Drastic weight loss is synonymous with abstinence and spending hours at the gym, but harnessing a few simple rules may prove more sustainable.

The internet is brimming with anecdotes from slimmers who have succeeded by adhering to straightforward meal plans that are easy to stick to over time.

Among them is Martin Bryan, who shed an impressive 11 stone in just 10 months thanks to the 1:1 diet.

In a recent clip, Martin shared that he has maintained his weight since 2019, thanks to the winning formula.

Starting at 27st 1lb, Bryan put his weight loss successes down to a structured meal plan and consistent hydration routine.

"I was never able to lose the weight and maintain it for a long period of time, until I found the 1:1 diet," Bryan revealed.

Before his breakthrough, the Briton had attempted numerous weight loss methods without lasting success.

"I was put on calorie-controlled diets, I went to slimming groups, I was on a point-based system, I tried cabbage soup diets, pills from doctors, you name it, I had done it," he explained.

These failed attempts only made his eventual success more meaningful, encouraging him to adopt an approach centred around a simple but effective daily meal plan.

He started each day with a strawberry shake for breakfast, he explained. Lunch consisted of either a chicken or vegetable soup.

His final meal of the day focused on vegetables combined with protein, carefully portioned to around 400 calories.

"This last meal would average around 400 calories," Bryan shared, noting that his three daily meals provided all necessary vitamins and nutrients.

How does the 1:1 diet work?

The 1:1 diet, also known as the Cambridge diet, is a programme with roots dating back to the 1960s.

At its core, the Cambridge diet is designed for rapid weight loss through strict calorie restriction.

The programme relies heavily on meal replacements, including shakes, soups and bars, beginning with an intensive 12-week phase featuring very low-calorie intake.

According to Know Diabetes, dieters can choose from six different plan variations, ranging from 440 to 1,500 calories daily.
