A fitness influencer has shared five delicious foods to kickstart your weight loss journey

Food swaps are excellent weight loss tools, but knowing where to start is the real challenge for slimmers.

Fortunately, finding healthier alternatives to the snacks we love most does not require compromise on taste.

The goal is to find different versions of your favourite meals that contain a fraction of the calories.

Graeme Tomlinson, who goes by the Fitness Chef online, shared several food swaps that will put slimmers on the path to weight loss, but taste just as good.

In a TikTok post, Graeme said: “Sustaining fat loss is not about being good at dieting. It is about creating a calorie deficit in the easiest way possible.

“Choosing low-calorie options of the same food allows you to enjoy the same taste and portion size, but fewer calories. Snickers ice cream for the win.”

Graeme the five following food swaps:

  • Snickers bar (245 calories) - Snickers Ice Cream (179 calories)
  • 200grams chicken thigh (322 calories) - 202 grams chicken breast (212 calories)
  • Bagel (240 calories) - Thin bagel (130 calories)
  • 200grams mince beef (504 calories) - 200grams five per cent mince beef (248 calories)
  • 50grams regular cheese (210 calories) - 50grams low-fat cheese (158 calories)

Making these switches alone can slash 594 calories from your daily intake while eating the same portions, according to Graeme.

The healthier alternatives will create a calorie deficit in your diet while leaving room for enjoyment at mealtimes.

For example, five per cent fat mince beef tastes the same as the normal version but contains only half the calories.

But while calorie deficits fuel weight loss, shedding fat isn’t always a matter of simple math.

In order to lose at least a pound a week, which is considered a safe weight loss rate, individuals should do at least 30 minutes of physical activity on most days and slash their daily calorie intake by at least 500 calories.

They should avoid the mistake of undereating, however, as this can endanger health and deprive the body of key nutrients.

Adhering to a diet with a complete nutritional profile is important for weight loss because deficiencies can lead to cravings for sugary and salty foods.

Without nutritional deficiencies, most people will find they can put an end to their unhealthy food desires.

What's more, whole foods are higher in fibre, which provides volume and keeps the body fuller for longer.

A high-quality diet typically requires more chewing too, making it easier for the brain to send signals that the body is full.
