Mindful eating habits could be more effective for weight loss than fad diets, a slimmer has claimed
The world is inundated with weight loss diets promising quick results, but the key to shedding pounds may lie closer to home.
Dieters tend to have more luck achieving long-term results when they understand their daily habits and identify which ones are hindering their progress.
Chelsea Mae claims she made several mistakes before succeeding in losing weight. She has since built a large following on YouTube, offering advice to others embarking on their weight loss journey.
The content creator recently dedicated a clip to the common mistakes that derail dieters from their goals.

“I want to share with you what they are so you don’t have to make them,” she said. “I was trying to exercise more and cut my portion sizes, and that phenomenally backfired on me. I ended up gaining a tonne of weight."
She claimed the two major mistakes she made on her weight loss journey were not eating enough calories and not eating enough filling starches.
“As soon as I learnt how to get into a calorie deficit and how to use calorie density, I was able to start losing weight really quickly, even eating the foods that I thought were no-go zones," the slimmer said.
This helped Chelsea lose a total of 40lbs (2st 12lb) in a year and a half, without abstaining from the foods she loved.
“What happens when you try to eat too few calories, is that you end up consuming more than you would have if you’d tried to eat a moderate amount of calories," she said.
“They might eat really really low calories for a couple of days, or they might even do it for a couple of weeks.
“Then they have a pendulum swing that happens when you get too hungry and run out of willpower, which is always going to happen at some point.”
The scientific community has also found that eating too few calories can hamper metabolism and thus sabotage weight loss efforts.
Filling up on starches is equally important for weight loss because it has a satiating effect on the body, keeping it fuller for longer.
“I am now the lowest weight of my adult life, eating as much as I want," Chelsea shared. "I’m not restricting, I’m not counting calories, and I’m not having to do extreme raw diets to maintain my weight."

The last mistake Chelsea committed for many years was “trying to exercise too much for weight loss".
"Weight loss is not about exercising a tonne, it’s about being in a caloric deficit," reflected the slimmer.
“What happens when you over-exercise is that you get really really hungry.
“This is exactly what happened to me. I was doing all this running to try and lose weight."
