A doctor told dieters to stay away from three specific fruits

For those who are trying to slim, a fruit salad may feel like a safe weight loss friendly option.

But according to one doctor, there are some fruits that are better than others when it comes to dropping the pounds.


Dieters may be better off avoiding mango, pineapple and melon if they want to achieve fast weight loss.

Dr Michael Mosley is a weight loss expert and founder of The Fast 800, a programme which has three pathways depending on an individual's goals.

Each pathway relies on the principles of the Mediterranean diet and is moderately low-carb.

His official website, The Fast 800, advises slimmers to "avoid sweet fruits". It reads: "Enjoy berries, apples and pears, which have less sugar than sweet, tropical fruits such as mango, pineapple and melon."

In addition to these sweet fruits, Dr Mosley advised slimmers to "cut right down" on sugar.

He instructed: "Reduce your intake of sugar, sugary treats, drinks and dessert."

For those who habitually add sugar to their tea or coffee, they should cut this out too to reach their weight loss goals.

Dieters don't have to avoid dessert - they just have to be smart about what they go for, according to the doctor.

He recommended enjoying some berries or a few squares of dark chocolate.

Registered dietitian Nancy Copperman suggested that berries are great for losing or maintaining weight.

She explained that their high fibre and liquid content makes the person eating them feel full.

This means if you snack on berries you're less likely to reach for processed or ultra-processed snacks throughout the day.

The dietician also shared that berries are low-calorie, making them diet-friendly.

One cup of raspberries has 64 calories, one cup of blackberries has 65, one cup of blueberries has 86 and strawberries have 48.

According to the expert, they are also suitable for people with diabetes because they are packed with fibre - particularly raspberries.
