Those looking to lose weight will likely need to modify their diets, which may include cutting out treats like chocolate bars, pastries, ice cream and cakes.
But according to one doctor, it's still possible to enjoy desserts and shed fat - as long as you pick out the right ones. Dark chocolate and berries are both good choices.
Dr Michael Mosley is a doctor and weight loss guru who founded The Fast 800, a diet programme that comprises pathways depending on individual goals.

Experts at The Fast 800 urged slimmers to "cut right down on sugar" if they expect to see results.
They said: "Reduce your intake of sugar, sugary treats, drinks and desserts."
But this doesn't mean dieters can't enjoy a post-dinner treat at all. The experts advised: "If you are looking for something sweet, try eating berries or a square of dark chocolate."
Dr Will Clower, author of Eat Chocolate, Lose Weight, suggested that eating a little bit of dark chocolate before or after meals can trigger hormones that signal fullness to the brain.
While strawberries, blueberries and raspberries are advantageous for weight loss, the experts advised against three particular fruits.
Sweet, tropical fruits such as mango, pineapple and melon are more sugary so it's best to minimise your consumption of these.
For those who enjoy a post-dinner tipple over dessert, the weight loss experts said that "an occasional treat is fine".
Research shows that resveratrol (a compound present in red wine) can contribute to the health benefits associated with the Mediterranean diet.

Resveratrol is also present in cocoa, blueberries and cranberries if you want to incorporate these into your diet.
However, the experts did give a warning: "Just be mindful on fasting days as the calories can be significant."
Another way slimmers can lose weight is to avoid nibbling between meals. If people feel they must snack there are three weight-loss friendly ones they can go for.
Dieters can also lose weight by eating a specific breakfast - they'll keep you fuller for longer.
