Choosing the right foods for breakfast can prove instrumental for long-term weight loss, as one slimmer has shown

Typical weekday breakfast items are loaded with sugar, and this can set the body up for failure when trying to lose weight.

How a person breaks their overnight fast often proves instrumental for their weight loss journey so it's important to opt for the right foods.

Content creator Chelsea Mae shed 2st 12lb after introducing strategic changes to her diet, particularly by including more protein at breakfast.

In a recent clip, she revealed how she successfully lost 40lb (2st 12lb) through a simple oatmeal-based breakfast routine that she maintains daily.

"This is the exact breakfast I used to lose 40lb on a plant-based diet. I eat it every single day and I never get sick of it," Mae shared.

Her signature breakfast recipe begins with ¾ of a cup of quick oats mixed with water and a scoop of protein powder, microwaved for two minutes.

The hearty bowl is then topped with frozen raspberries and ground flaxseeds, which elevate the nutritional value of the meal.

May added: “I ate oats every day and lost 40lb. Recently I was surprised to learn how much people are scared of oats. They’re not just filling and nutritious - they’re also super satisfying.”

According to WebMD, oats can aid weight loss due to their high fibre content, which helps promote feelings of fullness.

While many worry about their blood sugar levels soaring when they eat oats, this effect is significantly less likely when the meal includes healthy fats and protein.

As a rule of thumb, eating oatmeal will spike blood sugar levels when combined with sugar, or when too much is consumed at once.

What's more, there are different types of oats to help regulate blood sugar levels, like old fashions and steel-cut oats.

Both contain more soluble fibre and are minimally processed to slow digestion.

These essential nutrients work together to maintain satiety throughout the day, making it easier to maintain a healthy diet.

Combining these elements in a carbohydrate-based breakfast can create a filling meal that supports weight loss goals.
