Adding food rich in vitamin A to the diet will protect skin against oxidative stress

Many people associate skincare with beauty products, but foods are some of the most powerful tools for anti-ageing.

As a rule of thumb, people should opt for foods naturally jammed with different nutrients, like fruits, veggies, whole grains, nuts and fish.

Experts at UnityPoint Health explain: “Skin is composed of collagen and elastin, which make our skin supple and soft.

“Sugar causes cross-linking of collagen, resulting in stiffening and loss of elasticity of our skin. The more sugar we have, the more our skin starts to suffer.”

Among the foods that support healthy ageing, the most effective are packed with vitamin A and antioxidants.

Antioxidants reign supreme in anti-ageing diets because they protect the skin against oxidative stress, which speeds up wrinkles.

Vitamin A is another important factor because it stimulates collagen synthesis, which directly impacts how supple the skin is.

Concentrations of preformed vitamin A tend to be more elevated in foods like liver, fish, eggs and dairy products.

Medical News Today states that the nutrient also fuels the growth of all bodily tissues, including skin and hair.

More specifically, it assists in the production of sebum; the oils that maintain moisture and lustre of hair.

Jennifer Myers, a beauty enthusiast who has successfully maintained glass-like skin in her forties, swears by beef liver for younger skin.

“This food is the most nutrient-dense food that you can consume, it’s not only good for the body but it’s good for the skin, it’s an anti-ageing food.

“Foods like this are precisely why I don’t take supplements,” explained Jennifer. “I would rather get the nutrients from food.”

Founder of Fabulous 50s Schellea is another believer that antioxidants have helped preserve her youthful glow, as she explained in a clip to her 1.74 million followers on YouTube.
