A bathroom should be cleaned regularly to prevent mould and mildew

Bathrooms can be a breeding ground for germs, and mould and mildew can quickly appear.

An expert has shared an easy hack to eliminate this at home.

While there are lots of cleaning products on the market which promise great results, these can often be costly.

Bathroom expert Kerry Hale from Mira Showers suggested a more affordable, homemade option.

She said simply mixing water and vinegar can make a solution strong enough to target mildew.

It can also help prevent the problem from appearing in the first place and from getting worse, and Kerry explained the importance of getting ahead of the problem.

Kerry said: "Nobody wants to deal with a build-up of mould and mildew in the bathroom, so it’s worth taking some precautionary measures to prevent it getting out of control."

Homeowners can use the homemade solution and ensure the bathroom gets plenty of air to prevent mould.

Kerry continued: "This simple and easy to do – and all you need to do is spray down the bathroom with a mixture of water and distilled white vinegar regularly, and keeping the bathroom well ventilated.”

Mould and mildew are more likely to appear in the bathroom than in any other room in the house.

Excess water in the air can cause condensation that ultimately leads to mould.

That's why it's important to open a window or use an extractor fan after showering.

Cleaning enthusiasts can also keep windows clean by using a vinegar solution.

Vinegar is a natural cleaner that many people will already have in their cupboards.

An expert suggested mixing equal parts of water and white vinegar in a spray bottle.

This can be sprayed onto the window and wiped off using a microfibre cloth.
