According to the brand, the vehicle can be ordered through any UK Van Centre, with deliveries expected into the UK in the coming months.

It features a powerful powertrain that combines an electric motor with a high-tech 1.5 TSI engine, with this combination delivering a total output of 180kw.

The campervan is also equipped with a 19.7kWh lithium-ion battery that delivers a range of 54 miles of electric travel and has a towing capacity of up to 1,600kg.

The model is available in three trim levels, which include Beach Camper, Coast and Ocean.

The Beach Camper starts at £71,295, while the Coast trim is priced at £78,495, and the top-spec Ocean variant costs £85,395.

All models benefit from the same flexibility as their petrol and diesel counterparts, as well as two sliding doors which come as standard across the range.

Meanwhile, the Coast model features an electric pop-up roof, upgrading from the manually operated version on entry-level models.

The inside is fitted with front seats which swivel to create a lounge-like area. To mark the launch of the new vehicles, the car maker is offering new finance packages which will be available until June 30.

The Beach Camper will be available from £739 per month on a 48-month, 10,000-mile Hire Purchase agreement with zero per cent APR from Volkswagen Financial Services.

For comparison, the California 2.0TDI Ocean 7-speed Automatic 150ps will be on offer at £805 per month on similar terms.

All variants of the California eHybrid come with Volkswagen's promise warranty and service plan, which includes three oil services and two oil and inspection services as well as a five-year warranty and five years' roadside assistance.

Safety features include Front Assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane assist, and park assist with front and rear parking sensors.
