Britons looking to get their hands on a new electric car could be handed extra incentives as major car brands aim to get motorists to transition to cleaner vehicles.

Vauxhall has announced a new pricing structure for the Corsa Electric, Astra Electric and Astra Sports Tourer Electric to help more drivers make the switch.

The new starting price for the Corsa Electric Design is £29,045, with GS and Ultimate versions priced at £31,230 and £33,040 respectively.

The Astra Electric has also seen prices tumble down to £34,945, while the Astra Sports Tourer Electric will cost £36,145 - a saving of £3,850.

Alongside the new prices, drivers who are interested in making the switch to new electric vehicles could be buoyed with added incentives.

Vauxhall customers can benefit from the brand's Plug & Go offer, which includes a free Octopus Energy Ohme Pro wallbox and installation when buying online.

Drivers can also choose to forego the free wallbox and instead choose a £675 credit with Octopus Electroverse to use for public charging.

Vauxhall is also partnered with Tesco, meaning drivers can collect 50,000 Clubcard points when they purchase a new car through a registered retailer.

The Clubcard points can be exchanged for £500 in Clubcard vouchers to use in-store, or customers can double their value with Clubcard Reward Partners, giving them £1,000 of value.

James Taylor, managing director of Vauxhall, said the new pricing structure for the Corsa Electric and Astra Electric was done to "democratise access" to EVs.

Vauxhall was previously the first brand in the UK to offer an electric and petrol hybrid car for the same list price with New Frontera.

Taylor added: "Our five-year PCP offer on electric models means customers can enjoy equivalent monthly payments with petrol models over four years, while the special edition Corsa Electric YES Edition and Astra Electric Griffin make going electric even more attainable."

The Vauxhall Corsa has a total battery range of 221 miles, while the Astra can travel 260 miles on a single charge. The Astra Sports Tourer clocks in at 256 miles of range.

According to the latest data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Vauxhall has sold 63,402 vehicles in the UK so far this year.

While this is a significant 16.52 per cent drop compared to the number of sales seen in the previous year, Vauxhall still retais a 4.2 per cent share of the market.

Vauxhall also remains in the top 10 best-selling vehicle brands in the UK, with hopes that the new electric vehicle offers will tempt motorists to switch.
