'Despite general tight belting at the moment, car buyers were still happy to indulge in premium used cars last year'
Newly released data has found which popular car brands had the best-selling used vehicles in 2024, with electric vehicle numbers soaring.
Research from Auto Trader found that the Mercedes-Benz GLB Class was the best-selling used car last year, taking an average of just 16 days to sell.
The iconic German brand also took second place with the A-Class taking just 12 hours longer than its GLB counterpart, as drivers continue the trend of looking for SUVs.
Of the 10 fastest-selling vehicles, eight are SUVs and two are hatchbacks. Every car included in the top 10 took less than 20 days to sell on average.

The Mercedes-Benz models sold almost two weeks faster than the average used car at 30 days. The start of 2025 has also marked the fastest start since records began in 2019.
Electric vehicles were the overwhelming favourite model type, taking a median of just 29 days to sell, compared to 30 and 31 days for petrol and diesel respectively.
Vehicles that are between three and five years old sold at an even greater pace, with EVs flying off forecourts in just 23 days, six days quicker than a petrol car.
Richard Walker, data and insight director at Auto Trader, said: "Despite general tight belting at the moment, car buyers were still happy to indulge in premium used cars last year. Not only did Mercedes-Benz top the list, but most of 2024’s hottest used cars were pricier SUVs."

Walker added: "We've entered January with real momentum, following a very positive market performance last year. Cars sold at a rapid pace, demand was very robust, and prices were stable."
According to the data, a nearly new car up to one-year-old costs almost double (£37,032) the price of a car between three and five years old (£19,386).
The slowest-selling car took almost eight times as long to sell than the fastest-selling model with driver seemingly turning their back on the Hyundai Ioniq 6.
While the Ioniq 6 took an average of 125 days to sell last year, the slowest-selling used car in January so far is the Honda CR-V, taking just 62 days to sell.
