'Keeping tyres at the correct pressure and regularly checking wheel alignment will both help prolong the life of the tyres'

New analysis has revealed which car models wear through tyres most quickly across Britain, with the Tesla Model 3 emerging as the clear leader.

The UK's leading automotive servicing company, Kwik Fit, examined data from more than two million British car owners who visit their centres annually.

The Maintenance Index 2025 shows which vehicles are disproportionately likely to need tyre replacements in different regions.

The Tesla Model 3 topped the list in 54 locations nationwide, more than double its nearest competitor, the Citroen Berlingo, which led in 24 areas.

It indicates that driving conditions in certain parts of the country appear tougher on some models than others.

The Tesla Model 3's dominance spans from Aberdeenshire to Devon, with its highest score on the Kwik Fit Maintenance Index recorded in Enfield at 9.4.

The Model Y, another electric vehicle from the same manufacturer, secured third place overall, topping the list in 16 areas nationwide.

The Mercedes CLA (nine areas), BMW 4 series and Volvo XC40 (both with seven) completed the top six models requiring the most frequent tyre changes.

The Citroen Berlingo, securing second place, leads in areas stretching from Argyll and Bute to Wiltshire, with its highest index figure of 9.2 being recorded in Medway, Kent.

This suggests a potential urban-rural divide in the vehicle's usage patterns or driving conditions affecting tyre wear.

Roger Griggs, communications director at Kwik Fit, highlighted the company's extensive data collection capabilities.

He said: "We have more than 600 Kwik Fit centres across the country and see more than two million of the UK's cars each year, covering EVs and hybrids as well as petrol and diesel models.

"This, along with being independent of any one manufacturer, provides our analysts with a clearer and more comprehensive picture.

"Keeping tyres at the correct pressure and regularly checking wheel alignment will both help prolong the life of the tyres and also ensure they hold the road effectively. Drivers neglect tyre care at their peril."

The data suggests some manufacturers' overall design philosophy or vehicle characteristics may influence tyre wear patterns across their entire range.

The data reveals some models requiring disproportionate tyre changes in specific locations only. The Suzuki Alto tops the table exclusively in Dundee, appearing nowhere else in the national rankings.

In the Welsh county borough of Torfaen, the Vauxhall Adam leads the list as a regional anomaly, while the MG ZS appears particularly susceptible to tyre wear on what Kwik Fit describes as "the mean streets of Barking and Dagenham."

None of these models feature at the top of the table in any other location across Britain.

These localised patterns suggest unique driving conditions or usage patterns affecting specific vehicles in particular geographical areas.
