Popular French car brand Renault has taken aim at rival manufacturers with a new advertising campaign designed to promote its new electric vehicle.

Renault has installed a new advert outside of its flagship London West site in Brentford, Middlesex, enticing potential customers to "cross the road".

The dealership sits opposite a Mini store, with the campaign urging car buyers to consider rival products on the busy retail route.

The cheeky advert aims to "add some friendly rivalry" as the new electric Renault 5 E-Tech adorned with a Union Flag on the roof, poking further fun at the classic Mini.

The advert shows several slogans, including "There's a new supermini in town", "Why did the customer cross the road?" and "Make your neighbours jealous".

A striking yellow Renault 5 E-Tech is positioned beneath the advert outside the London West retailer, along the busy Great West Road.

The Renault 5 E-Tech is targeted at urban commuters with an impressive driving range of 250 miles, with prices starting from £22,995.

The iconic city car can charge from 15 per cent to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes as Renault moves towards an electric future through its "Renaulution" strategy.

The electric vehicle has already won a number of awards, including the Top Gear Car of the Year, What Car? Car of the Year and The Car of the Year.

Renault has a history of using advertising campaigns to poke fun at brands or politicians and promote their latest technology.

In July, the day after Labour won a landslide majority in the General Election, a Renault Master removal van was spotted outside 10 Downing Street to "assist Rishi Sunak in case he faces an imminent departure".

The removal van jibed at the former Prime Minister further with a message emblazoned on the side, saying: "We've got space for everything... including a Sky dish."

This referenced an interview in which Sunak was pressed on what sacrifices his family made during his childhood, to which he responded that his family went without Sky TV.

Speaking at the time, a spokesperson for Renault said: "Nobody likes moving, but a spacious, economical and refined van like the Renault Master is perfect for ensuring that none of life's essentials get left behind, even when you have to leave in a hurry".

According to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Renault has already sold 17,693 cars this year, enough for 3.05 per cent of the total market share.

It also represents an impressive 20.66 per cent year-on-year growth in sales. March saw the Boulogne-Billancourt-based manufacturer register more than 11,000 new vehicles.
