Most recently a driver was hit with a five-year ban by Northamptonshire police for failing to stop for police officers and was also sentenced to 10 months in prison.

In Leicestershire, the police convicted a driver who caused a fatal collision after being on their mobile phone behind the wheel.

Officers found that there had been a Bluetooth connection between the mobile device and car up until the point the collision had occurred.

The investigation revealed that the driver had used the X app at the moment of the collision.

The driver was sentenced to three years and nine months’ imprisonment. He was also slapped with a driving ban for five years.

In the West Midlands, the police conducted speed checks this week in response to ongoing concerns from residents about dangerous driving.

Target areas included Bristol Road South in Longbridge, Russell Road and Salisbury Road in Moseley, and Bristol Road at Belgrave Middleway.

Chief Inspector Keeley Bevington from the force traffic unit said: “We’re relentless in our pursuit of those who put lives at risk on our roads. Expect to see us out in force over the coming weeks, making our roads safer for everyone.

“Anyone caught driving dangerously and committing offences will face the full force of the law.”

The operation on Tuesday August 6 resulted in 66 drivers being reported for excessive speed.

A further three individuals were fined for not wearing seat belts, two people reported for illegal number plates and one vehicle seized for no insurance.

West Midlands Police stated: “Driving above the speed limit is a reckless act that puts yourself and others in danger. Not only can it result in serious injury or death, but it also carries severe consequences, including six points on your licence and a hefty fine.”
