A revolutionary new technology has been developed which could help make winter driving significantly safer and more convenient for motorists.
It comes after South Korean car maker Genesis, part of Hyundai Group revealed it is in the process of developing groundbreaking heated windscreen technology.
The innovative system can clear a completely frozen windscreen within just five minutes in freezing conditions - three times faster than conventional methods currently available.
This advancement marks a significant leap forward in addressing one of winter driving's most frustrating challenges, particularly during early morning commutes.

The tech could revolutionise cold-weather motoring
GENESIS
The system represents a world-first application of metal-coated heated glass technology combined with a 48-volt system, setting new standards for windscreen clearing efficiency.
For drivers accustomed to lengthy waits while their cars defrost, this development could revolutionise cold-weather motoring, offering both enhanced safety and convenience during winter months.

“After being the first to introduce facial recognition technology on the Genesis GV60 last year, we’re proud to be showcasing another technological innovation with Metal-Coated Heated Glass, designed to efficiently and effortlessly deal with cold conditions for our customers.”
The technology demonstrates significant energy advantages over traditional methods, consuming 10 per cent less power compared to conventional air-conditioning units.
This reduced power consumption is particularly beneficial for electric vehicles, helping to preserve crucial components including the battery and electric motors.
The system marks a substantial improvement over traditional 13.5-volt power systems, which typically require more than 15 minutes to achieve the same level of windscreen clearing.
Genesis has conducted extensive testing of the new technology on its GV70 and GV60 electric models, demonstrating the performance of the tech in extreme conditions.
Tests carried out in temperatures as low as -18°C showed the system could completely clear windscreens within five minutes.
Beyond its frost-clearing capabilities, the new windscreen technology offers additional benefits for year-round driving comfort.
The glass incorporates a solar reflection function that blocks at least 60 per cent of solar energy from entering the vehicle. This feature helps maintain a cooler cabin temperature, reducing it by two to three degrees celcius during summer months.
The system's dual-season functionality makes it particularly valuable for electric vehicle owners concerned about maximising their vehicle's efficiency.

GENESIS
While Genesis has demonstrated the impressive capabilities of this new technology, the company has not yet confirmed when it will be available in production vehicles.
However, preparations for wider implementation appear to be underway, with parent company Hyundai Motor Group having already filed patents for the system. The patent filing suggests serious intent to bring this technology to market across the group's vehicle range.
