Motorists get 'really lucky' as number of uninsured drivers soar across the UK - Is your area at risk?
GB NEWS
Birmingham and Bexley were ranked as the main hotspots for uninsured drivers
Experts are warning Britons about the areas which see the most uninsured drivers as police launch a week of action to crack down on motorists breaking car insurance rules.
Car insurance prices have battered motorists in recent years, with costs reaching record heights and many being slapped with quotes totalling more than a few thousand pounds.
This has generally been put down to the high rate of inflation, an increase in the number of claims and scammers looking to take advantage of crash-for-cash schemes.
New data has found that two postcodes in Birmingham - B11 and B21 - are the two UK hotspots where there are the highest rates of uninsured drivers.

MOTOR INSURERS' BUREAU
The data, from the Motor Insurers' Bureau, also identified that areas of London and the West Midlands see the highest rates of uninsured drivers, based on two years of MIB claims data.
A total of 30 claims against uninsured drivers from Croydon were submitted to MIB, which was the highest number in one postal district across the UK.
However, because of the dense population of the London borough, it only ranked 176th on the hotspot list.
The research has been published in line with the Motor Insurers' Bureau's "Operation Drive Insured" campaign which will take place between November 11 and 17.
This will see road policing units across the UK carry out additional checks on motorists in problem areas to crack down on the number of uninsured drivers.
Uninsured vehicles will be tagged by ANPR cameras and flagged to police, and through Operation Drive Insured and Operation Tutelage, motorists will be dealt with at the roadside.
The MIB also highlighted how motorists can be impacted by uninsured drivers. One road user, Ian, was hit by a stolen lorry and was left with a badly damaged car.
Since the lorry was stolen, had cloned plates, and the drivers had escaped, Ian's insurers told him to contact the MIB to get compensation for his injuries.
He said: "It allowed me to think about getting on with life. You've got bills to pay and you don't really want to get into debt through something that's not your own fault.
"Getting a claim from MIB definitely helped to alleviate some of the stress that was involved.
"When I look back, actually I was really, really lucky to get out of that one. I’d be much happier if there were no uninsured drivers on the road."
Uninsured drivers can be slapped with a £300 fixed penalty notice and three points on their licence. If stopped by the police, the vehicle could be seized, and one in three of these cases ends in the driver having their car crushed.
