‘You’re a hypocrite!’ Michelle Dewberry blasts Michael Crick as he demands 20mph speed limits
GB NEWS
40 miles of road in London will become more problematic for motorists
Michelle Dewberry was embroiled in a fiery GB News row over the introduction of 20mph speed limits in roads across London.
It comes after it was revealed that 40 miles of road in London will become more problematic for motorists as they will be limited to the prohibitive speed limit.
Somebody in favour of the new regulations is broadcaster Michael Crick, who told Dewberry that more anti-car policies are needed in order to prevent the planet from “sizzling”.
Dewberry pulled the reporter up on the point, finding out that Crick himself drives a car, although he insists he does so as sparingly as possible.
“We’ve become obsessed with cars, everyone seems to have a big car these days”, he said.
“We’ve got to get away from being a car society. We need to start walking more, the reason people are so fat these days is because people never get any exercise.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
“All in all, if we can get away from more car use, great.”
Former Brexit Party MEP Martin Daubney interjected, arguing that more anti-car policies like increasingly prohibitive speed limits and low emission zones are seeing Britain “go back in time”, meaning driving will soon become a “preserve of the rich”.
Crick responded: “These are drastic measures we need in a world we’re going to be frying in.
“You’re being so selfish, you’re saying let’s live out a life of luxury.”
20mph speed zones have come under fire
PAGB News host Dewberry snapped back, urging Crick to “pack it in”.
She then went on to ask whether Crick owns a car, to which he admitted that he does.
“Let me be clear. You want everyone else to get rid of their cars so we don’t ‘fry’, but by your own admission, you have a car, therefore you’re a hypocrite.
“Why don’t you lead by example and get rid of your car?
“Lead by example and be the change you want to see in the world!”
Crick argued that climate issues are being “selfishly” ignored, and they are being passed onto future generations as a result.
Transport for London (TfL) outlined the raft of speed limits which are expected to be introduced on sections of roads in a number of boroughs before the end of the year.
The change will be introduced on roads in Greenwich, Kensington and Chelsea, Lewisham, Southwark, Wandsworth, Merton, Bromley and Lambeth.
Data suggests that if someone is hit by a car travelling at 30mph compared to 20mph, they are five times more likely to get killed.
It is not the first measure introduced during Sadiq Khan’s time as London mayor that has limited drivers, with the Ultra Low Emission Zone (Ulez) expansion coming into force in August.
The zone now covers all London boroughs, meaning anyone wanting to drive a non-compliant vehicle in the area is now subject to a £12.50 daily charge.
