Clarkson said the popular Hyundai EV is a 'breath of fresh air'

Jeremy Clarkson has revealed his favourite cars of the year, praising the pace and power of a popular electric vehicle and the slick design of another high-powered luxury vehicle.

In the Sunday Times Motor Awards, Jeremy Clarkson spoke about the cars that left an impression on him this year.

This comes after he declared that he was "too old and fat to get into the cars" that he likes and was no longer interested in driving the cars that he doesn't care for.

Clarkson has previously noted that he was particularly fond of the Jaguar F-Type which has recently ended production as the British brand prepares to switch to an electric future.

He used the F-Type in a recent The Grand Tour special when trekking across the rugged terrain of Mauritania alongside co-stars James May and Richard Hammond.

Speaking at the time, Clarkson said he "could not lavish enough praise" on the F-Type, adding that he was so impressed that he purchased one for his personal use when he returned to the UK.

Clarkson has since given an updated view on his favourite cars, first saying that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N electric vehicle was "made to be as much fun as is humanly possible".

He described the speed of the vehicle as being like "Usain Bolt after someone had just given him a wasabi enema", with the Ioniq 5 N having a top speed of 161mph and acceleration of 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds.

The EV has an all-electric driving range of up to 278 miles, prompting Clarkson to describe it as "a breath of fresh air". The Ioniq 5 N was awarded the Sunday Times Hot Hatch of the Year.

The Clarkson's Farm star also spoke highly of the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT, with the 64-year-old testing the £165,000 Premium Plus model, calling it "scary fast".

He doubted whether the Mercedes performance data was correct, saying that it was likely faster than the claimed 0-62mph time of 3.2 seconds.

Clarkson is likely one of the most famous car reviewers on the planet, having tested the best and worst cars on the market over the years on Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson's Motorworld and The Grand Tour.

One of his favourite cars recently went up for auction, having first tested in 1992. The classic 1992 Ford Escort RS Cosworth sold for an impressive £67,500.

The Escort RS was one of just three "pre-production prototypes" manufactured by the German brand, which was rumoured to cost in excess of £250,000 to produce.

The Mallard Green Cosworth was in "superb condition" and remains one of the brand's most popular models given its rare status and impressive specifications.

Clarkson tested the Ford Escort over "Buttertubs Pass" in North Yorkshire, with Clarkson describing it as "One of my all-time favourite roads meets one of my all-time favourite cars".
