Jeremy Clarkson has spoken out about his opinion on supercars and explained why he prefers other vehicles, including older Range Rover models.

The car enthusiast has long been associated with the biggest and best vehicles that manufacturers have to offer, showing them off on TV and in his columns.

Clarkson has never been afraid to suppress his opinion, especially when it comes to cars, and his latest supercar did not avoid getting a grilling from the presenter.

The 63-year-old had been snapped parking a McLaren 750S Spider in Notting Hill earlier this month, reviewing the car but pointing out its shortcomings.

McLaren’s latest supercar will set motorists back around £308,000, with the historic British brand highlighting its “beautifully engineered” convertible technology.

Writing in The Times, he said: “In fact these days I prefer my old Range Rover to any supercar.

“They’re too difficult to get in and out of, there’s nowhere for the dogs and they’re too powerful.

“Of course, I know what to do if a car’s rear tyres light up and some oversteer happens, but I’m old now and consequently I’m not completely sure I’d have the reflexes to deal with it.”

He outlined that he still likes supercars and will be “sad” when they’re gone, lamenting the fact that internal combustion engines will be replaced with electric powertrains.

The 750S will be the last McLaren to have a roaring V8 engine, although it has a slower top speed than its predecessor, the 720S.

He compared his driving experience to that of using a Volkswagen Golf until the motorist accelerates, with the supercar able to go from zero to 124mph in a staggering 7.3 seconds.

Despite the optimism around the car, the Who Wants to be a Millionaire host said the engine did not compare to V10 or V12 engines, calling it a “Swiss watch that sounds like a bombed dam”.

In reaction to his recently released new Prime Video special, The Grand Tour: Sand Job, Clarkson lavished praise on the supercar he used when traversing across Mauritania.

His Jaguar F-Type V6 Supercharged VS was “so impressive” that when he returned from filming, he bought one “immediately”, keeping it at his farm in Chipping Norton.

He described the vehicle as being “extraordinarily strong”, “so tough” and “so unbreakable”.

The F-Type V6 boasts a 340bhp engine, a max speed of 161mph and can go from zero to 60mph in just over five seconds.
