Jeremy Clarkson's favourite car model to end production amid move to all-electric fleet

A British car brand has announced that it will no longer produce an iconic model of its vehicles as the company moves to become fully electric.


The Jaguar F-Type which has been around for more than 10 years will no longer be in production as the brand moves away from petrol and diesel cars.

The car features a five-litre V8 Convertible in Giola Green with a black roof and a tan Windsor leather interior.

Roughly 87,731 models have been produced and will be available to purchase until early 2025.

Rawdon Glover, managing director at Jaguar, said: “The singular vision of Jaguar’s founder, Sir William Lyons, was to always be future-facing, relevant and original.

“This has been the foundation of Jaguar through almost a century of evolving contemporary British luxury.

“We will reimagine and elevate the Jaguar brand that will be focused on growing client intimacy and engagement, underpinned by our purpose to inspire like no other.”

Jaguar hoped to transform into an all-electric brand by 2025 in a bid to keep up with the UK's ambitious net-zero targets.

The model was first launched as a convertible in 2013 and was Jaguar’s first two-seat sports car in almost 40 years. It won World Car Design of the Year in 2013.

Sam Sheehan, motoring editor at Cinch, explained that the vehicle made a remarkable impression, and “has even stolen the heart of presenter Jeremy Clarkson, who drives the vehicle on the show”.

Clarkson loved driving the F-Type so much that he even bought a supercharged V6 model “as soon as he got home from Mauritania,” Sheehan detailed.

According to cinch, Sheehan said it had noticed a spike in interest for the Jaguar F-Type on Saturday February 17, registering an impressive 63 per cent increase in searches for the model compared to the previous weekend.

The figure was also the biggest number of daily searches for the F-Type since the start of the month.

“Once again, this shows that cultural moments can have a significant impact on consumer behaviour – especially when looking for their next car,” he added.

The Jaguar F-Type came with two engine options, the first being a two-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that produced 300 horsepower and 400 Nm.

The other options include 450 horsepower and 572 nm of torque, or 575 horsepower and 700 nm of torque.
