A “groundbreaking” electric vehicle charger has been unveiled which has the ability to power a car hundreds of miles in just 10 minutes.
The StoreDot fast charger can boost a car from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in 10 minutes making it go a further 200 miles.
The technology aims to tackle one of the biggest problems with electric cars, the waiting time for charging and lack of fast power points across the country.
As of March 2024, there are 11,609 rapid or ultra-rapid charging devices across 5,261 charging locations in the UK, but they typically take 20 to 40 minutes to charge 80 per cent.

Now with the incorporation of even faster technology, EVs will benefit from an additional 200 miles worth of travel with only a short waiting time.
Dr Doron Myersdorf, CEO of StoreDot, said: “We are very excited to share this impressive achievement today and are proud to be on this journey with Polestar, a leading car brand who envisions high performance cars with a sustainable future.
“We’re happy to see our partner is among the first EV car makers to acknowledge that XFC is now a necessary standard to make vast EV adoption a reality.
“With our extreme fast charging technology, you can add 200 miles in under 10 minutes.”
Mysersdorf added that through this breakthrough, it “revolutionises” EV ownership experience by removing some of the barriers associated with range and charge.
The charger is powered by a pure silicone anode XFC battery cells and represents another “major milestone” for electric vehicles.
Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, added: “By eliminating charging times that were previously an obstacle, StoreDot’s XFC battery cells combined with our cutting-edge product development and battery engineering have unlocked new frontiers for electric mobility.
“This technology will reshape consumer expectations and accelerate mass EV adoption by making EV ownership a seamless experience for the mass market."
The company had recently been able to add 100 miles worth of charge onto an EV in just five minutes, with Storedot aiming for the four minute mark by 2026 and three minutes by 2028.
The availability of electric chargers has been an ongoing issue across the UK and one of the biggest barriers for drivers wanting to switch.
Now as more chargers become available to drivers it is hopes this will fuel more people to buy an electric car.
New data also estimated that drivers could save around £110 a month, or £1,320 a year when switching to an electric car from a petrol vehicle.
