Drivers warned of potential payment changes at Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury's petrol stations
PA
Some petrol stations will take a £100 pre-authorisation fee before refuelling
Drivers are being warned about potential changes they may see when visiting their local petrol station and the way they normally pay for their fuel.
According to the Association for Petroleum and Explosives Administration, there are around 8,000 filling stations across the UK, with millions of drivers visiting them regularly.
As more companies and drivers look to make the transition to cashless payment techniques, more forecourts around the country are introducing pay-at-the-pump facilities, as well as removing manned kiosks.
GB News has rounded up any payment changes petrol and diesel drivers could see when visiting their local supermarket fuel forecourt.

Sainsbury's is not expected to make changes to its forecourts
PASainsbury's petrol stations have self-service pumps that allow customers to pay for their fuel at the pump rather than going into the kiosk.
These Pay@Pump facilities will request a £100 pre-authorisation amount before refuelling to ensure that customers have sufficient funds to cover the cost of fuel dispensed, following new industry requirements mandated by Visa and MasterCard.
GB News understands that Sainsbury's hasn't made any changes to the way in which motorists use the forecourts and it continues to offer customers a range of ways to pay.
Drivers cannot use contactless when paying at the pump at Tesco forecourts
PATesco also has Pay at Pump kiosks where drivers can fill up with a maximum of £120 of fuel, although there is no maximum spend when paying at the kiosks.
Contactless payment cards for payments up to £100 are available inside the kiosks, with drivers unable to use contactless payment methods at the Pay at Pump facilities.
Tesco forecourts also accept fuel cars at the kiosks including fuelGenie, UK Fuels, Keyfuels (purple card only) and Allstar.
Morrisons sold its petrol stations to MFG earlier this year
PAEarlier this year, Morrisons completed the sale of its forecourts to industry giant Motor Fuel Group (MFG) for around £2.5billion.
This included 337 Morrisons petrol forecourts (including fuel, convenience retail kiosk and ancillary services) and more than 400 associated sites across the UK for ultra-rapid EV charging development.
GB News has been told that there are no plans for the MFG petrol stations at Morrisons sites to be fully cashless.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
Asda has 82 sites with drive-thru payment kiosks
PA
There are around 300 forecourts attached to Asda superstores around the UK, with more than half of these sites already being unmanned.
A total of 82 sites have drive-thru payment kiosks at superstores, while 14 of these sites have already been converted since December last year.
An Asda spokesperson said: "As more than 90 per cent of all payments on our Superstore forecourts are made via card or a contactless device, the colleagues who worked on these sites are moving into the store so they can better serve our customers. These conversions began in December and we expect to complete the changeover later in 2024."
