Road closures will start on Friday 21 February and last until at least February 24

Motorists have been warned they face significant disruption this weekend as major works get underway impacting several major motorways.

The M25 will see Junction 10 close all slip roads from Friday night until Monday morning, while the M62 westbound between Manchester and Warrington faces overnight closures and daytime lane restrictions.

Further disruption will begin on Monday when a four-month drainage improvement project starts on the M6 between Lancaster and Kendal.

The works are part of ongoing improvements to the motorway network, with additional M25 weekend closures planned for March.

The M25 junction 10 closure begins at 9pm on February 21, affecting all slip roads at the Wisley Interchange with the A3.

While both the M25 and A3 will remain open, drivers will only be able to pass through the junction without joining or leaving either road.

The closure will remain in place until 6am on February 24. National Highways has arranged diversions via local routes, including the A320, A245, and A243, with all signed diversions designed to avoid London's Ulez routes.

The A3 Northbound off slip to Painshill Junction will remain open to maintain local access. Meanwhile, the M62 westbound carriageway between Junction 12 at Eccles and Junction 11 at Birchwood will face overnight closures and daytime lane restrictions over two consecutive weekends. Full overnight closures will be in place from 9pm Friday to 6am Saturday on both February 21 and 28.

During Saturday daytime hours, two of the four westbound lanes will be closed until late evening on both weekends. A diversion route will operate via the anti-clockwise M60, westbound M56 and northbound M6.

Football fans travelling to the Everton v Manchester United match on Saturday have been advised to consider using the M56 and M6 route to avoid delays.

The closures are to allow a £4million drainage improvement project to begin on the M6 on February 24, running between Junction 34 at Lancaster and Junction 36 south of Kendal.

The four-month scheme will involve repairing drainage systems and central reservation safety barriers as well as clearing blockages and improving the southbound roadside verge.

National Highways project manager Cameron Newsham said: "Doing the drainage and safety barrier work at the same time means reducing future roadworks in the area – minimising inconvenience for motorway users.

"In any case, the motorway will be open to drivers at all times as we’ll be carrying out all the work by only using lane closures both during the daytime and overnight.

"While we are not expecting this work to disrupt anyone’s journey we appreciate drivers like to know what work is going on when they come across traffic management and lane closures."

The work will be carried out in three phases using lane closures, with the motorway remaining open throughout. A 50mph speed limit will be in place for some sections, though the national speed limit will apply elsewhere.

All traffic management will be removed during the Easter bank holiday period. Two full weekend closures of the M25 between junctions 10 and 11 are scheduled for March to allow for bridge demolition works.

The closures will run from 9pm Friday to 6am Monday between March 7 and 10 and again between March 21 and 24. An additional closure is planned for April 11 and 14, when the A3 will be shut in both directions between Junction 10 and Cobham Roundabout.

The works are part of a £317million project to upgrade the Wisley Interchange, which is due for completion in Spring 2026.
