The number of drivers waiting for their licence to be returned by the DVLA after filling out medical renewal records has sparked concern as many motorists have been left stranded.
Drivers have shared their fury with the DVLA for the long waiting times following a medical disclosure with one motorist waiting as long as three months.
Drivers are required to fill out medical records to ensure they remain competent to drive on UK roads, they must disclose any updates to the DVLA.
However, despite more drivers being compliant and filling out the forms, they are still waiting for their licence to return.

Backlogs in excess of three months for licences to be returned
PAOne driver explained that after filling out a medical form to disclose a glaucoma, he still hasn’t received his licence back.
Taking to social media, he said: “Do believe it can happen folks. I have waited for three months for my licence to be renewed, complained several times only to be told they can't help.
“I have glaucoma and did all the tests they asked for but there were many delays.
“On Monday morning I emailed my MP and what's happened !!!! The DVLA licence check site says I have a full licence. Only for a year so I'll have to go through this again next year, but definitely a result.”
According to the DVLA, nearly 900,000 medical licencing decisions were made last year to determine whether drivers were fit for UK roads.
Medical decisions are conducted to assess a driver's fitness and include a questionnaire, a CDT blood test, and any other tests which may be relevant such as an eye and hearing examination.
Another user stated that they are still waiting for their GP to resend examination results from October to the agency.
He shared: “I’ve battled for months to get my license renewed and my bloody GP can’t see me for three weeks..!”
As the issues with licence renewals continue, worryingly some drivers revealed they will avoid disclosing a medical condition all together.
A DVLA spokesperson explained that all drivers must meet the medical standards for fitness to drive at all times.
The spokesperson commented: “The volume of driving licence applications and renewals has increased as these figures show.
“When considering an application to issue a driving licence we aim to make a decision as quickly as possible. However where we require additional information from a driver or a medical professional involved in their care we will be wholly reliant on receiving this information before a decision can be made.”
