The motorist was also accused of driving with a bald tyre in addition to the bizarre wallpaper cover-up

A motorist has had their car prohibited from being driven after they were caught using wallpaper and brown parcel tape to cover up significant damage on their vehicle.

Steerside Enforcement Team pulled a silver Toyota Yaris off the road in Bradford over the weekend as part of a police operation.

The driver had used flowery wallpaper and brown parcel tape to hide major damage to the rear passenger door, which had reportedly happened the day before.

After discovering the extent of the damage, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) enforcement team agreed that it should be prohibited from driving.

The DVSA enforcement team had been working with Steerside Enforcement Team and Bradford Council's Taxi Licensing and Enforcement Department over the weekend.

The motorist was also reported for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition and for having a bald tyre.

The team, which covers Bradford District for West Yorkshire Police, said the incident was the “highlight of the evening”.

Pictures uploaded to social media show the extent of the damage with large parts of metal missing and scratches along the door.

Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, they posted: “Tonight we've been working with our partners from the Council's Taxi Licencing and Enforcement Department and @DVSAEnforcement checking that vehicles were safe and roadworthy.

“Various Private Hire Taxis and other vehicles were taken off the road after being inspected. And defects being found.

"Other drivers were dealt with for traffic offences such as failing to wear seatbelts, using mobile phones while driving and driving without insurance.

“One driver was arrested by @WYP_BradfordW Officers for drug driving having failed a roadside test.”

Further police action took place on roads across West Yorkshire including people found to be driving a high-end Audi A3 which did not have a valid MOT, insurance and the motorist only had a provisional licence.

Another person was caught driving a Ford KA without insurance and while being disqualified, resulting in the police reporting the offences and seizing the vehicle.

Speaking previously, Noreen Akhtar, assistant director of Neighbourhoods and Community Services, said: “You know in Bradford we have a culture of people [who] like to have cars, like to drive cars, like to drive nice cars.

"But we are committed to making sure that the place that our kids grow up, and parents are in, is safe.
