Applications for some of the charging grants are set to end in March next year

Drivers are still able to save thousands of pounds off the price of an electric vehicle charger at home or at work, although some grants will end soon.

An increasing number of Britons are making the switch to electric vehicles, with demand also growing for EV chargers at homes and workplaces to reduce the reliance on public chargers.

According to EV charging database Zapmap, there are around one million charging stations installed at homes with driveways across the UK.

To help drivers get their hands on a charger for their homes or workplaces, GB News has rounded up the grants and offers available to help motorists.

Homes

The electric vehicle chargepoint grant for renters and flat owners can help motorists get up to £350 towards the cost of installing a charger if they own and live in a flat, or they rent and live in any residential property.

However, this could catch some motorists out, as the grant is only eligible for renters and flat owners with private off-street parking.

A similar £350 grant is available for households with on-street parking. An eligible candidate must live in a property they own or rent, be installing a cross-pavement solution (like a charging gully) and only have on-street parking.

Workplaces

The Workplace Charging Scheme provides up to £350 per socket towards the cost of installing chargers, with companies able to apply for up to 40 sockets.

This can apply across multiple sites, although this is only eligible for businesses, charities and public sector organisations.

Landlords are also able to get a substantial grant of up to £350 per chargepoint socket. Every year, they can apply for up to 200 grants for residential properties like flats and houses, and 100 grants for commercial properties like offices.

Residential landlords can apply for grants towards the costs of installing chargepoints, associated infrastructure and preparing parking spaces for future installations. GOV.UK states grants of up to £30,000 per property are available.

Similar grants of up to £15,000 per site are available for small and medium-sized businesses if they have 249 employees or fewer.

The money can be used when installing chargers, preparing any related infrastructure and getting areas ready for installations to begin.

The Workplace Charging Scheme and EV infrastructure grant for staff and fleets remain open for applications until March 21, 2026.
