Many products claim they can reduce pore size, but whether or not this is truly possible is up for debate.
Leading skin care authorities Leslie Fletcher, owner of InjectAbility Clinics, and Dr Natalie Curcio, Founder of Curcio Dermatology, believe different strategies can lead to promising results.
During a conversation with GB News, they broke down some of the science behind pore appearance and the most effective management strategies.
Leslie explained that as we age, the skin loses elasticity, allowing larger pores to form.

"Pores shrink and expand based on how much debris and oil are in them," she explained.
But washing, toning and applying light acid-based products to reduce oil in the skin can make all the difference.
She emphasised the importance of medical-grade ingredients like Salicyloyl Phytosphingosine to minimise pore appearance.
Dr Natalie Curcio, on the other hand, believes a more definitive stance is required for pore reduction.
"You cannot truly shrink your pores as many products promise, because the size of pores is genetically predetermined," she said.
Her top recommendations include adequate sun protection, hydration, regular exfoliation and dedicated pore-minimising products.
Some of the most effective ingredients, according to the expert, include alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) and salicylic acid. But retinol and charcoal can also help reduce pore appearance.
"Remember to consider your skin type when selecting products," Dr Curcio urged.

For those with acne-prone skin who are concerned about enlarged pores, an AHA/BHA cleanser is recommended.
Both experts agreed that while the size of pores cannot be permanently altered, their appearance can be significantly improved.
The key is a consistent skin care routine focussing on cleansing and oil reduction.
However, it is crucial to manage expectations and understand that proper skin care can create the illusion of smaller pores.
