Asda confirmed that customers at petrol kiosks should expect a big change in 2024

Some Asda shoppers will notice a major change when they visit their local superstore later this year.

The supermarket chain will be going cashless in some Superstore forecourts, where customers can fill up on fuel.

This means shoppers will save time as they will no longer need to go into the forecourt store to pay.

Asda staff working at the petrol site will be relocated into stores. This should be completed by summer 2024.

There are currently 82 sites that have drive-thru payment kiosks at superstores, and 14 of these have already been converted, with the initiative starting in December 2023. There are 68 sites set to make the change.

An Asda spokesperson told GB News: “As more than 90 per cent of all payments on our Superstore forecourts are made via card or a contactless device, the colleagues who worked on these sites are moving into the store so they can better serve our customers.

"These conversions began in December and we expect to complete the changeover later in 2024.”

Asda has around 300 forecourts attached to its superstores and over half of these sites are already unmanned.

The change will allow car users to fill up quickly and easily without needing to enter the store.

But this new move by the supermarket won't be rolled out in all Asda petrol stations, just at forecourts adjacent to an Asda superstore.

This comes as Asda announced that 21 Asda Express stores will open before the end of January 2024.

The move was part of the supermarket's programme to convert convenience stores acquired from the Co-op and EG Group to Asda locations.
