Two listings have been removed from the Amazon marketplace due to safety hazards
Amazon shoppers have received a warning after two product safety alerts were issued in the United Kingdom, highlighting potential health risks.
Customers who purchased the Ecarke Angle Grinders have been alerted that the product was rejected at the border due to a high risk of electric shock.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) shared the following product description in a statement:
The product presents a high risk of electric shock
GETTY
The Ecarke Angle Grinders were halted at the UK border after the product's transformer was found to be of poor build quality, with primary and secondary wings touching, posing risks of fire, explosion, and electric shock.
Additionally, the plug face failed to meet dimensional requirements set by British standards. The distance from the outside edge to the live pin was deemed too short.
These issues meant the angle grinders did not comply with the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 or the Plugs & Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994.
Local Authority Trading Standards notified authorities of these hazards, leading to the import's rejection at the border.
A second recall involves Abuytwo Adult Swim Jackets sold on Amazon, which have been recalled due to drowning hazards.
The product lacked crucial information on minimum and maximum sizing limits, essential for proper use.
According to the OPSS, the product concerned is:
Authorities found the swim jackets were not supplied with required compliance documentation or markings.
This absence of vital information could potentially lead to incorrect usage and drowning incidents.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
The OPSS has therefore mandated a recall of the product from end users, while Amazon has removed the listing from its marketplace.
The Government body told Britons: "The product has been assessed as presenting a serious risk of drowning as the buoyancy aid was not accompanied with any minimum or maximum sizing limits.
"The product was not supplied with the required compliance documentation or markings to be used correctly by a consumer, potentially resulting in a risk of drowning.
"The product does not meet the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2016/425 on Personal Protective Equipment or the Personal Protective Equipment (Enforcement) Regulations 2018."
