Aldi has shared the locations where it wants to open branches across the UK

Aldi opened its 1,000th UK store and has plans to open a further 500 in the country.

The retailer is backing Britain with a plan to have a store "close to everyone in the UK".

The German supermarket will open a new store in Slough within weeks, on October 12.

Doncaster will get a new location even sooner with a brand new store opening doors on October 5.

Communications director at Aldi UK Richard Thornton said: “We want to make our great value groceries accessible to all, and to do that we need more stores, particularly in towns and areas that don’t have an Aldi already.

“The areas we’ve identified in our latest list are places where there is demand for stores and we are committed to continue investing until we can bring our quality products and unbeatable prices to as many people as possible.”

This comes as Aldi has made a number of changes in its stores, updating packaging and making moves to become more sustainable.

It has removed single use cutlery from its food to go area and its updated stores with more loose fruits and vegetables to cut back on packaging.

It is also trialling sensory-friendly shopping hours until the end of October to give a quieter shopping experience at certain times.

Discount retailer Lidl has also made moves to show its investment in the UK.

It has closed a few stores this year but plans to open hundreds more.

Lidl has shared goals to have more than 1,100 stores across the country.
