The total value of all the items the customer received was over £80

An Aldi customer was left shocked after he received a hilarious surprise in a £3.50 mystery box from the supermarket.

A shopper opened his Too Good To Go box – which can contain any possible item of food that the supermarket stocks – to discover a ridiculous amount of one particular product.

Aldi partnered with Too Good to Go last year to give customers an opportunity to buy unsold products at a heavily discounted rate. The initiative helps stop surplus food from going to waste.

However, one man was astonished to discover a staggering 36 blocks of cheddar cheese in his box.

Blair Cole, from Kirkcaldy, Scotland, received a cardboard crate stocked with cranberry and orange liqueur Wensleydale, extra mature cheddar and balsamic onion cheese.

He also received a Korean-style barbecue beef ready-meal in the box, which had a combined total worth of £89.64.

Cole, 27, a customer service advisor, took to social media to share the unorthodox contents of the box.

“I could not have expected this,” he said online, sharing a video of his hilarious haul.

He joked: “So, here is the Too Good To Go haul. We've got a nice Korean-style barbecue beef, what else did we get?”

Cole then panned the camera to reveal the sea of dairy products sealed in festive waxed shapes, declaring: “Oh, we got 36 blocks of cheese.”

He praised Too Good To Go for “breaking down the stigma" of best-before produce, as the cheese he was sent had a best-before date of January 10.

Luckily for Cole, he is a self-professed cheese lover, so the influx of dairy products will go down a treat.

As with any Too Good To Go haul, the products received have a short shelf life. However, this did not faze Cole who said: “Cheese just gets better with age”.

He added: “I love cheese and crackers, macaroni cheese, anything cheese. I've put a load in the freezer, although my girlfriend hates cheese, so she's not impressed. I can't wait to eat it.”

"I've left some in the fridge also in case any family or friends want any, and if not it will go to the food bank."

It was Cole’s second time using the app to get heavily discounted food close to its expiry date. The first time, he had received a box filled with baked goods from Greggs.

“It's now got me checking the Too Good To Go app for more orders, I feel like I'm very much in the green,” he added.

Cole’s post has amassed over 4,000 shares and 67,000 likes.

Users equally as shocked as Cole by the box's contents expressed their surprise online.

One said: “Wow that’s better than the 8 sausage rolls and 8 donuts I got from Greggs for £2.59”.

Another joked: “I would be running around the house shirtless.”

A third suggested: “Think how incredibly cheesy you could make a mac and cheese”, which prompted Cole to reply saying that he could “feed a whole city”.
