A simple habit has become a cornerstone of her sustainable weight management approach

Weight loss strategies are wide-ranging but sticking to the basics generally leads to the most promising results.

A simple dietary habit shown to better support slimming goals involves increasing fibre intake.

YouTuber Nikki, who lost 70 lbs and managed to keep it off, explained that eating Honeycrisp apples at the end of each meal helped her stay on track.

Rather than focusing solely on restriction, she explained that incorporating specific healthy foods daily made all the difference to her waistline.

In a recent clip, the dieter noted that eating an apple before dessert helped her shed 70lbs and maintain her new figure.

"I went to Weight Watchers in 2020 and lost 70lbs that year," she told viewers. "Tip number one is having a honey crisp every single day after dinner."

She explained that when she eats a meal, she craves something sweet after.

"In the past, my habit was to go and grab some candy," she said. "I realised that fruit kind of satisfies that sweet tooth for me."

Nikki doesn't restrict dessert entirely but has fruit first to help fill her up.

"It's helped me so much to help satisfy that sweet tooth but also to get some fibre in," she added.

"I think it really does help with my digestion. It's really just become a healthy habit that's helped me stick to my goals because then I don't overdo it."

Experts at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital confirmed this approach offers unique benefits for weight loss.

"An apple a day may keep the doctors away but it may also help you lose weight more quickly," they explained.

This claim is backed by research published in the journal Appetite found that apples led to reduced calorie intake and weight loss. This effect wasn't matched by oat cookies containing similar calorie and fibre content.

The study suggested there's something unique about whole apples that supports weight management beyond just their nutritional profile.

Apple contains approximately four grams of fibre, which is impressive considering its low-calorie content, making it an optimal choice for those looking to reach their recommended daily fibre intake.
