Blood sugar levels typically increase most after eating a meal

There are many ways to regulate blood sugar levels, from exercising after meals to having the correct food group first.

One expert explained that hydration and selecting appropriate drinks are important, as they significantly help prevent blood sugar spikes.

Nutritionist Phoebe Liebling spoke exclusively to GB News and shared a series of drinks to stabilise blood glucose.

Phoebe said: "Try having ceremonial matcha as it contains catechins that improve insulin sensitivity."

Catechins help absorb carbohydrates which improves insulin sensitivity and regulates mitochondrial function.

According to a study published by the National Library of Medicine: "Catechins improve insulin resistance, reduce oxidative stress and lower blood glucose sources."

Another option is apple cider vinegar water, with Phoebe recommending having it as a drizzle on vegetables or a salad.

She said: "Apple cider vinegar water helps lower post-meal blood sugar spikes when had before [or with] meals."

Fresh turmeric or ginger tea can help regulate blood glucose through its anti-inflammatory compounds.

To prepare it, Phoebe said: "Slice five to six centimetres of each & boil in a covered pan with one litre of water for 10 minutes then leave to cool."

Phoebe also recommended cinnamon tea, which blocks digestive enzymes that break down carbohydrates. The nutritionist explained: "It helps improve insulin sensitivity and reduce glucose absorption."

For a less sweet taste, lemon water helps slow down the digestion of carbohydrates and supports hydration. Lemons are high in fibre and vitamin C, which can help people with diabetes manage their blood sugar.

As well as having the correct drinks, having the right foods in the morning is very important. A dietician shared three foods to have at breakfast to stabilise blood sugar levels.

They said: "Eggs are a great breakfast choice for helping to reduce blood glucose levels. They are low in calories and high in protein.

"Another option is porridge as the soluble fibre content of the oats means they can help to lower blood sugar levels."
