Cold showers and ice baths can help reduce blood glucose

When trying to reduce blood sugar levels, eating the right foods and exercising are usually the first things that come to mind.

A nutritionist has shared three unusual hacks which can help stabilise blood glucose, including changing the temperature of your shower.

Speaking exclusively to GB News, Phoebe Liebling said exposure to cold can activate brown fat which improves glucose metabolism.

She said: "Try ending your shower with 30 to 60 seconds of cold water, or even a cold plunge."

Try to avoid gasping when the freezing water hits your body by taking deeper breaths. You can even sing your way through it.

Phoebe said: "Try big long exhales out whilst projecting your voice. This keeps your nervous system balanced but also helps to stimulate dopamine."

The second hack is building bigger muscles - because having a higher percentage of muscle mass improves blood sugar regulation.

The pharmacist explained: "The more muscle you have the more surface area you have to absorb and use sugar."

Activating your muscles regularly through resistance training benefits insulin function.

Phoebe said: "This is integral to preventing or reversing insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. It will also have a positive impact on sugar cravings and overall food preferences."

Adding cinnamon and berberine to your diet also helps stabilise blood sugar levels.

Phoebe explained: "Ceylon cinnamon has been shown to enhance insulin sensitivity and has the dual benefit of providing a sweet flavour to food without containing sugar. It is a handy trick to turn to if you are trying to decrease your sugar intake overall."

According to a study published by the National Library of Medicine, berberine is very effective in reducing blood sugar levels.

It said: "Modern pharmacological effects of berberine on glucose metabolism are improving insulin resistance, promoting insulin secretion [and] inhibiting gluconeogenesis in the liver."

Another nutritionist has shared three drinks that can help with stabilising blood glucose.

Speaking exclusively to GB News, the expert advised having ginger and green tea as they both contain antioxidants which improve glucose metabolism.
