Some of the most simple habits can have measurable effects on blood sugar levels

Chronically high blood sugar levels can pave the way for grave health complications like diabetes and nerve damage.

But a Stanford-trained physician has revealed a surprisingly simple solution that takes just five minutes to implement.

Dr Shad Marvasti, MD, took to TikTok to share his expert advice on managing blood sugar levels through walking.

“If you just walk for about five to seven minutes after a meal, not only will it help your food to settle and help with digestion, but it will actually lower your blood sugar," he shared.

The expert noted that this advice has proven critical for his diabetes patients, who routinely advises to take these brief walks.

"Just walk around the house, while cleaning up the dishes, or putting things away while moving around, anything like that, that's very low impact is enough to significantly lower your blood sugar after a meal," he advises.

How does walking lower blood sugar?

The science behind this simple hack lies in how walking affects insulin efficiency in the body.

Walking helps the body utilise insulin more effectively whilst also converting consumed sugar into energy.

Other effective ways to reduce high blood sugar levels through lifestyle include eating more fibre in the diet.

Fibre is a complex carbohydrate that doesn’t cause blood sugar levels to spike after a meal.

Soluble fibre, specifically, has been identified as one of the most effective varieties for blood sugar control.

Plant-based nutritionist Charmaine Dominguez, who helps patients reverse type 2 diabetes naturally from her Los Angeles practice, recently shared alternative methods to lower blood sugar levels.

She noted that one of the easiest ways to prevent unruly blood sugar levels is by increasing fluid intake through water and unsweetened tea.

"When you drink a lot of water it can actually help you dilute the glucose in your blood and help you lower your blood sugar," she explained.

Unsweetened tea has been specifically highlighted by the nutritionist for its blood sugar-lowering properties.
