Everyone wants to have a long and healthy life and, while nothing can guarantee this, some daily habits will set you on the right path.
A doctor explained why sleep is so important, and how much you should get every night.
Chief medical officer at Indiana Center for Recovery Dr Michael Kane spoke to GB News about nutrition, social connections and exercise.
However, sleep is also vital and something fewer people prioritise. The doctor said: "I cannot stress enough the importance of getting enough sleep.
Getting enough sleep is vital

"Quality sleep allows your body to repair and rejuvenate. As such, I recommend getting enough sleep, about seven to eight hours, sticking to a consistent sleep schedule, and creating a bedtime routine."
Many people struggle to drift off at night, but the doctor suggested creating a good routine that "promotes relaxation".
Dr Kane advised nightly activities like reading or meditating - "they improve both the quantity and quality of your rest".
Indeed, research published in the National Library of Medicine reviewed the link between healthy sleep patterns with life expectancy.
The study of 172,321 adults found men who get adequate sleep live an average of 4.7 years longer, and women can live for 2.4 years longer.
Another way to improve longevity that has nothing to do with diet and exercise is to maintain social connections.
Dr Kane continued: "Longevity is also about building and maintaining strong social connections.
"Nowadays, loneliness and isolation are very common and have been shown to increase the risk of health illnesses, so make time for friends, family, and community activities."

Staying social is also important
GETTYThose who do not have an active social life already can build these connections by joining groups, especially in later life.
The expert added: "You can do volunteering or join groups that share your interests, as they provide a sense of purpose and belonging."
Regarding the best diet for living longer, Dr Kane recommended incorporating whole, plant-based foods whilst limiting processed options.
